Hesitation- 97 Ford Expedition, any Mechanics out there?
The two little resistor things at the coil packs are ignition noise suppressors for the radio. The MAF calculates altitude during hard acceleration (not to the floor). The MAF rarely sets a code due to the wide range (altitude) of output. Example: The vehicle is at 100 ft, when you start the car the MAF sends a signal (HZ) to the PCM that the vehicle is at 3,000 ft, the car runs bad with no check eng light because the output of 3,000 ft is well within range of a properly operating MAF. If you have a scanner you can monitor the PCM PID for the MAF to compare the PID with the altitude. MAF is major fuel control input. Just an idea for you to check, good luck.
